Sequester Carbon

Maximizing the photosynthetic potential of deep-rooted perennial vegetation through the regenerative management of grassland ecosystems drives vegetation growth cycles. This is the engine that removes carbon and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and sequesters and stores them in soils.

Improve Water Quality

Regenerative land management leads to increased soil organic matter, which increases a soil’s water-holding capacity, and ultimately improves water quality and reduces surface runoff. A one percent increase in soil organic matter can store an additional 20,000 gallons of water.

Increase Biodiversity

Regenerative land management and ecosystem restoration can increase the diversity of flora and fauna on the solar landscape both on the surface, through diversity in vegetation species composition and improved wildlife habitat, as well as in soils, through the diversity of the soils’ micro and macro biology.

Revitalize Soils

Restoring solar lands to functioning grassland ecosystems increases soil organic matter, improves microbiological activity, and improves cation exchange capacity, all of which are leading indicators of soil health.

Rather than viewing the land housing our solar power plants as an operations cost center – a liability – we recognize that land and vegetation are valuable natural resources and biological assets. When land and vegetation are managed properly, and in alignment with natural systems, we can revitalize soils, restore grassland ecosystems, increase biodiversity, sequester carbon, and improve water quality, all while keeping the land in agricultural production.
