Making Solar Do More.

 Nature-Based. Data-Driven. Community-Focused.

Created by Silicon Ranch, Regenerative Energy® is the transformative new standard of excellence for solar power plant design, construction, and operations that normalizes regenerative agriculture practices on solar farm sites.

We co-locate clean electricity generation and regenerative agriculture to benefit people, land the environment, and the economy.

Outcome-Driven Regenerative Design and Land Management, by Visionary People

Silicon Ranch designs utility scale solar power plants with nature in mind. We team up with regenerative ranchers, thought-leaders, non-profits, and communities to measure and verify outcomes. By co-locating solar energy and regenerative agriculture, we create valuable environmental, social, and economic outcomes, above and beyond the significant positive impacts that a solar facility alone can produce. Together, we create more value for our customers and communities.

On A Diverse Land Base

The Silicon Ranch project footprint  covers fifteen different ecoregions comprising a variety of ecosystems, climates, soils, and terrains. This requires our team to customize its design, construction, and land management approaches to create site appropriate solutions that achieve common outcomes. By innovating, adapting, and responding to local events and conditions, we honor the richness and diversity of place.

Sequester Carbon

Maximizing the photosynthetic potential of deep-rooted perennial vegetation through the regenerative management of grassland ecosystems drives vegetation growth cycles. This is the engine that removes carbon and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and sequesters and stores them in soils.

Improve Water Quality

Regenerative land management leads to increased soil organic matter, which increases a soil’s water-holding capacity, and ultimately improves water quality and reduces surface runoff. A one percent increase in soil organic matter can store an additional 20,000 gallons of water.

Increase Biodiversity

Regenerative land management and ecosystem restoration can increase the diversity of flora and fauna on the solar landscape both on the surface, through diversity in vegetation species composition and improved wildlife habitat, as well as in soils, through the diversity of the soils’ micro and macro biology.

Revitalize Soils

Restoring solar lands to functioning grassland ecosystems increases soil organic matter, improves microbiological activity, and improves cation exchange capacity, all of which are leading indicators of soil health.

Restoring the Environment

Rather than viewing the land housing our solar power plants as an operations cost center – a liability – we recognize that land and vegetation are valuable natural resources and biological assets. When land and vegetation are managed properly, and in alignment with natural systems, we can revitalize soils, restore grassland ecosystems, increase biodiversity, sequester carbon, and improve water quality, all while keeping the land in agricultural production.

Building Resilient Economies

By developing replicable regenerative solar ranches, at the right scale, we add value to land and create high-quality, long-term jobs and new revenue streams for farmers, ranchers, land managers, and rural communities across the U.S. We’re helping meet the need for decentralized and resilient energy and food systems.
